Key chains !

One of the things that almost every human being possesses is a key chain.  In modern day lifestyles, we all use keys for our homes, our cars, our bicycles, our offices, and the list goes on and on.  So, there is no arguing about its utilitarian value and the fact that anyone from a teenager upwards would find value in a key chain.  The fact that it is something that will be used almost daily is another important piece of information as it is something we have with us all the time.

It is therefore no surprise that key chains have taken on many shapes, sizes and forms including glass, plastic, metal, leather, etc.  For many people, their choice of key chain, its colour, shape or style has been a means of personal expression.    The fact that the word chain is attached to key should tell us something about the purpose of a key chain. The combination of the two is like a yin and yang of sorts.  The one denotes opening and other denotes bondage.   While most keys look the same (although in recent years there have been attempts to change the shape and form of keys), in general, they have a very particular look with several variations.  Thus, as individuals, we have little say over the actual key shape.  The makers of locks decide what the shape will be.  In a world where we all try to be unique and different, the key chain is one of the means of expressing our individuality.

One of the worst things one can do is to give someone a key chain that has no personality and says nothing about the person.  It clearly signals a lack of connection and understanding of the person – which is fine if the desire was to simply gift a key chain as a polite gesture.  On the other hand, any individual or entity that gives a key chain where clearly a lot of thought has gone into will end up with a fan for life.  Whenever the key chain is used, which as we have established is regularly, the person or entity will be remembered with a fondness.  The key chain in other words will have its own story and will not become this generic, no name, insignificant object attached to your key.
